As promised, for those of you who don't know what Dump Cake is (Mary Jo), here is the recipe in all of its fruity, buttery, cakey glory! And did I mention it's SOOOOOO easy?
You will need:
1 can crushed pineapple
1 can cherry pie filling
1 pkg yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter (yes, the whole thing--or more if you like)
Some people like to add nuts but I think they're nutty. Just a little joke. Little.
Dump the can of pineapple (juices and all) in the bottom of a 9x13 pan and spread. Dump cherries on top of that. Sprinkle the dry cake mix (and nuts if you're nutty) all over the top of that. Cut butter into thin slices (which is easier to do when the butter is really cold) and place the pieces spread out all over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. It will smell sooooo good (as Grandpa P would say). I highly recommend that you eat it while it's still warm from the oven so that your vanilla ice cream (which goes great with Dump Cake) gets a little melty on the top.
Thanks for teaching me how to make Dump Cake Aunt Mel!! You're the best!

Oh that does sound good. That is interesting that you just put the dry cake mix in there. Oh and I wanted to ask you what city you guys live in? We lived in Fullerton. Right at the Yorba Linda exit at the 57. Across the freeway from Cal State Fullerton. What is your husband studying?
Yeah, the dry mix soaks up some of the juices from the fruit and the butter also melts into it and it becomes kind of cakey and kind of buttery-crispy.
