San Diego Rock 'N' Roll Marathon: The Beginning

"Rock 'N' Roll Stops the Traffic."
-Bono

3:00 AM--Too early to be awake, in my opinion.
The roads and freeways were closed earlier than they said. 2am instead of 5am...Oops!
None of the road block volunteers knew alternative directions. Poor planning :(
We thought we might miss the race.
Finally one guy knew what he was talking about.
I think I was in the middle of a panic attack!!

Running buddies!

Breaking free of the plastic bag (it was a very cold morning).
Adam appears to be praying in this picture:
"Please let me qualify for Boston..."

Get a load of those PORT-A-POTTYS!!
(Literally, hehe!)

The starting line: Corral #1

6:30 AM: They're OFF!! Good Luck!!

No. He had a bad race. He cramped up really badly in the last 6 miles and had to walk for about 5 miles. Towards the end a lady started talking to him about how much she hates that particular marathon. He agreed, but it motivated him to finish strong. He probably ran his last mile around a 6 minute pace.

The same thing happened to him when he ran SD two years ago...the bad cramps and all, so he doesn't think he'll run this one anymore. Plus he doesn't like to run Sunday races.

One cool thing that happened, he ran with Dean Karnaza (sp?) for a while. His next goal is to run a marathon in every country within one year. There are about 260-something countries right now. He's crazy! He ran the LA Marathon on Memorial Day, then spent the week running from LA to San Diego, then ran the San Diego marathon. Crazy!!

Does that answer your question? We'll see how St. George goes this year. We still have a hope of Boston. Don't rub it in to Adam, but he turns 30 this summer, and I think that might put him into a higher qualifying category. This could be his year!!
